Former ETA Military Chief, Francisco Javier García Gaztelu 'Txapote', has been sentenced to 105 years in prison for the assassination of the Basque Socialist spokesman, Fernando Buesa and his bodyguard, Jorge Díez in Vitoria in 2000.

It’s the first sentence against an ETA activist from the National Court since the announcement from the terrorists of a definitive end of the use of violence.

The fourth section of the Penal Hall of the court said that the term was for two crimes of terrorist killing, another two of causing injury, one of causing havoc, and the falsification of an official document.

Judge Ángela Murillo and the magistrates Carmen Palomoa González and Juan Francisco Martel also ordered the ex ETA leader to pay compensation to each of the families of 500,000 €.
